Welcome

Welcome to the Garden of Eat’n, our CSA (Community Sustainable Agriculture), we are now in our third year! Our family, the Rothe’s, have grown crops on this farm for over 100 years. Vegetables, hay, corn silage for the Herefords, and broadleaf tobacco have been cropped on this land since 1902. Over 87+ acres have produced food for our family and now we share our abundance with you. Although not totally organic we make every effort to use the least amount of chemicals possible. We want to be good stewards of the land. Vegetables for the farm stand and CSA are grown on 2 ½ acres and shared at the farm stand and with our shareholders.

The main farm house is situated across from the Windermere School on Windsorville Road in Ellington, CT. Ed Rothe Jr. and his farm pup, Buddy live in the main farm house while Ed’s parents, Ed Sr and wife Jane live next door to just to the right of the main farmhouse. On Hayes Avenue, Gene and his 180 lb pup Diesel, Gene’s father Jean and Jean’s wife Chris live and watch over the farm from their backyard.
Our CSA took on the name Garden of Eat’n as a play of words on Garden of Eden because it was being members of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Manchester, CT for Chris and Jean that started the interest in becoming a CSA.
